Ludwig Drums
Ludwig Drum Company has introduced a stream of innovations in drum construction, particularly in the use of materials and finishes. Most of the drums manufactured by Ludwig were made of wood. For many years the drum shells were constructed of a three-ply lamination of mahogany, poplar, and mahogany. Starting in 1968 mahogany was replaced with maple. All of these Ludwig shells had a maple reinforcing ring glued to the inner circumference of the drum shell at each end. Six-ply wood construction was introduced by Ludwig in 1976 andthese drums did not have reinforcing rings. Vintage and used Ludwig drums are highly collectible and usually increase in value over the years. Buying a vintage Ludwig drum set is a good investment.
